I've been seeking treatment for Parkinson's disease for 15 years.
I've taken many detours.
Recently, 78-year-old Grandpa Chen's brain pacemaker was activated after surgery.
On October 10th, Grandpa Chen underwent surgery to implant a wireless remote brain pacemaker using a Suzhou Jingyu device. Prior to this, he reported suffering from tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia, and difficulty walking for over a decade.
After the device was activated, his family was astounded by the incredible results of the pacemaker.
"This is incredible! I didn't expect the results to be so good. All the perseverance I put in before the surgery feels completely worth it at this moment."
15-year course of illness
Parkinson's disease was diagnosed five years after the onset of the disease.
Fifteen years ago, 78-year-old Grandpa Chen from Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, developed limb weakness and body pain.
For the first five years, his daughter took him to see doctors, including traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, orthopedics, and rheumatology. None of them could find the cause. Some doctors suggested myasthenia, others a rheumatic disease.
To alleviate his pain, they even tried folk remedies and consulted a fortune teller, but ultimately, no conclusion was reached regarding the underlying condition.
Five years later, when tremors developed in his left upper limb, Parkinson's disease was diagnosed.
The doctor recommended Madopar for control, but fearing side effects, Grandpa Chen refused to take it. When the medication was about to expire, reluctant to waste it, he tried taking a quarter of a dose. To his surprise, the tremors and stiffness subsided. After this firsthand experience, he began taking the medication as directed.
A daughter sought medical treatment for her father.
Seeking help from a Parkinson's Disease Care Center.
Grandpa Chen's daughter recounted:
"Although my father had been ill for 15 years, he went undiagnosed for the first five years. We took many detours, visiting major hospitals, seeing both Western and Chinese medicine doctors, and even consulting a fortune teller. We knew it was unscientific, but we were determined to alleviate his pain."
"Five years later, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He started taking Madopar, and the results were fantastic. I thought he was finally cured. But as time went on, the drug's effectiveness became less and less effective. The initial onset time was a few minutes, but it eventually went to half an hour, and the duration of effectiveness became shorter and shorter. In the past six months, after the drug's effects wore off, he couldn't move and needed a wheelchair to go out."
"At the time, I wanted to have... Is there no surgery for Parkinson's disease? Are there any treatments besides medication?
"So, I took him to many hospitals. It's inconvenient for my father to go out, and it was always difficult to queue up for an appointment. It usually takes a week to get an appointment at an outpatient clinic. I thought it would be great if there was a professional team of Parkinson's disease experts. We wouldn't have to wait so long every time to see a doctor."
"Before National Day this year, I took my father to the Parkinson's Disease Care Center at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University for the first time. They provided us with family-like care, from medication adjustments to treatment plan development and surgical evaluation. Today, after turning on the computer, I saw my father finally smile, and it felt worth it. As long as he's happy, we're happy."
