On May 22, 2020, Dr. Li Dianyou, Director of Functional Neurosurgery at Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, received a call for help from overseas. Mr. Xiang, a Parkinson's patient residing in Quebec, Canada, had recently experienced fluctuating symptoms and required controlled treatment. However, at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic was raging globally, countries were reducing flights and closing entry and exit points. Mr. Xiang, over 70 years old, was at high risk for COVID-19 and couldn't bear the risk of returning to China. If he were to contract the virus during airport trouble en route, the consequences would be disastrous.
In desperation, he called Dr. Li Dianyou at Ruijin Hospital, hoping for help. Upon learning of this unique situation, Dr. Li realized that Mr. Xiang had received a SceneRay implant and that he had a remote control device called the Transmigration Treasure. He then inquired with the manufacturer whether it was possible to connect the device from China to Canada for remote control.
After contacting Mr. Xiang, SceneRay staff learned that he had indeed brought the SceneRay remote control device to Canada and that he reported good network conditions in his area. A test was conducted at the company, and the connection from Suzhou to Canada was smooth, with no lags. SceneRay staff tested Mr. Xiang and confirmed the connection was smooth. On May 25th, Director Li performed remote control on Mr. Xiang. After 15 minutes of parameter adjustment, Mr. Xiang felt relaxed and his limbs improved significantly. He was very satisfied with the remote control and expressed deep gratitude to Director Li for his concern and assistance.
The SceneRay remote control system now supports international control. During the severe global pandemic, Director Li is concerned about the well-being of Parkinson's patients abroad, doing his best to help them resolve their issues, and demonstrating his commitment to each patient. Thanks to the strong partnership between the hospital and the manufacturer, overseas patients can also receive safe remote control treatment.
